: I run a 500hp Superior Wood Fueled Boiler. Very recently I have had problems with my Feedwater pumps short cycling. (on and off quickly and often). I have checked for steam leaks.(none) The water in the site tube on column seems to fluctuate a lot. (not like boil off just lever rising and lowering...almost a small bounce effect) It makes the pump's mercury switches go off often and even occasionally trips the LWCO alarm and shuts control circuit. Any ideas what could cause this condition? Thanks!!
Sounds to me like you have some sort of contamination of your boiler water. Many years ago I had an occasion where the water softener screwed up and let a very large amount of brine go into the boiler which caused a situation like you are describing. Check for possible condensate contamination. Steam leaks on the water column piping maybe could cause that. Good luck
