: I am currently working as a "temporarily assigned" stationary fireman for the State of Illinois. Without going into too much detail, my workplace has a boiler house and I was able to temporarily transfer there and train as a S.F. and now work on shift without supervision. Illinois does not require a stationary fireman/boiler operator license to hold this position. I am currently enrolled in the S.E.I. course as a means to both learn more about boiler operation but I would also would like to take the licensing exam for any state or city and obtain a license from any jurisdiction in order to build my resume for the future posting of a permanent position at my current work site. These positions are extremely rare and very competitive when they are offered and I am trying to ensure that I meet every possible qualification for a future permanent position.
: I have searched the internet and see many states and cities require a license but can not find any information on how/where/if I can test for one. Can anybody pass along any information on who to contact and sit for an licensing exam ANYWHERE?
: Thanks in advance.
Every state / ;ocal will have their own licensing requirements. Check with local authorities. Here is one for New York City:
