I have a Cleaver Brooks #2 oil fired fire tube boiler. When the back door was removed for the annual cleaning It had alot of white soot from just inside the combustion chamber, on the tube sheet, and extended to about a foot inside of the second pass. It has a consistency of sodium. I have not been able to get an explanation as to what it may be. Our boiler rep tells me I need to have it analized in a lab if I really need to know. I have never run across it before. This boiler also runs with a positive draft most of the time (when >60 % F.R.) and the stack temperature is low, about 190 F. This is the way our boiler rep wants it to run. We also have alot of stack condensation. I'm wodering if anyone has seen this kind of soot before and could it be a result of an underfired boiler.
