I would first play with the present control scheme - focus on changing the response of the feeders and air damper to changes in boiler master output signal; changes to gain, rate, and reset functions may make an impact. This should be done according to a plan. It will however be limited depending on what type of feeders you have. If working with your present control scheme does not allow for improvements, get a dcs/boiler control specialist in to configure a stategy on your dcs for minimum gas usage.

What is the average moisture content of your wood waste? What type of feeders do you have - do they respond quickly to the demand signal from the boiler master? Does the fuel sit on the grate in a pile or does most of it burn in suspension?
