It is working the way it should,the way it works is once it starts the ignitor,it must get the thermocouple up to temp to open the gas valve,if the unit is cold it will take some time to reach the temp in order to open main gas,when you shut down the unit after it is hot,it will not take as long to open the gas and light it self.On cold mornings on the first try it will take a while.If it did'nt light and just clicked for ever,then you would have a bad thermocouple.Hope this helps
