: Would appreciate any and all input on the effect of
: steam space on steam quality in packaged firetube
: boilers.

: Calculating the level swell in pool boiling, i can see
: that the steam space for a 650 hp firetube boiler is
: only around 50 cu.ft, i.e. a disengagement height of
: maybe 10 inches for the shell diameter and length i have.

: Look forward to hearing from people in this forum
: on their experiences/input on this issue.

: Thanks

One of the less desirable characteristics of firetube boilers is the poor quality of steam they prouduce. This is due to the fact that there is insufficient room above the water level (in the steam space)to install any type of steam scrubbing equipment such as cyclone separatorss, corrugated scrubbers or even a dry pipe. It is for theis reason that steam generated from firetube boilers should not be utilitzed for steam turbine drives.
