Economizer installation for non-dearated boiler feedwater. Unit design specifics:
Duplex stainless steel economizer tubes with stainless steel fins are required due to dissolved
oxygen in the water. Upgrade to Duplex stainless steel required to prevent against chloride stress corrosion cracking
of any 300 series stainless steel tube.
Installation adequate for natural gas firing and #2 oil firing
Any economizer that is installed in a possible condensing application MUST
be designed with provisions in the lower transition to collect and drain all
condensation from the stack, preventing it from entering and damaging the boiler.
Economizer Installation for Non-Deaerated Feedwater Entering Boiler
Utilizing an On/Off Boiler Feedwater System:
During feedpump ON operation, the feedpump sends the feedwater through
the economizer and into the boiler.
When the feedpump shuts OFF, the small circulation pump
starts and circulates water in the closed piping loop to maintain flow in the economizer to avoid a
stagnant flow situation. A stagnant flow situation will lead to economizer
steaming and hammering, possibly leading to economizer and boiler damage.
The check valves on the boiler inlet and the feedpump discharge
keeps the water flow in the new loop.
When the feedpump goes back into an ON condition, the water in the circulation
loop is flushed into the boiler, maintaining heat recovery at ALL operating
conditions.
