: What would be the effects of not opening the drum vents at 20 psi on a 1250 psi 950 degree B&W boiler?
: We know that B&W says it is to be opened to prevent the gaskets from being damaged by the vacuum.
: How much of a vacuum would be created?

Don't know how much vacuum is created but it doesn't really matter as the boiler can take it. But I do know it's enough to loosen handhole and manhole gaskets to the point of drawing impurities between the gasket and the surfaces so that they leak when you re-pressure the boiler.
