: What would be the effects of not opening the drum vents at 20 psi on a 1250 psi 950 degree B&W boiler?
: We know that B&W says it is to be opened to prevent the gaskets from being damaged by the vacuum.
: How much of a vacuum would be created?

Good question, In my 30 years around boilers I have heard the same thing, "open vents before zero psi" so not to damage the gaskests". But you know, I have no clue what kind of vacuum a boiler could generate after reaching zero psi and cooling to a further degree.

Sorry I really diden't help, I want to know too.
Things that make you go hummm.
