I have read in a lot of places that the pressuretrol on my steam system should be set with a cut-in of 0.5 PSI and differential of 1 PSI. I have a steam system that runs well except if I adjust the pressuretrol (Honeywell 404A Additive Differential) cut-in down to 0.5 PSI the boiler won't cut in (even if cold) . I have the additive differential set at 1 PSI with the internal white dial.
The only way I can get the boiler to cut-in is by turning the set point screw and increasing the cut-in to somewhere between 1 and 2 PSI. When doing this I can hear a faint click within the pressuretrol, after which the boiler cuts in.
Can I assume that the pressuretrol is just broken or is this typical of the mechanical nature of the pressuretrol switch ?
Thanks to anyone who can help...
