Steam boiler replacement: copper return OK?

I need to replace my 50+ yr old residential steam boiler. One quote I got specifies black steel supply piping and copper return pipng. Is it OK to use copper for the returns or is it an unacceptabe short cut?
The other quotes I have don't specify anything. I guess I need to ask each contractor what he plans to do.
