: Has anyone had any dealings with MIURA Boiler? I am looking at the EX series 300 hp steam boiler to replace our older Scotch marine units. This is a relatively new product out there. Not much Info available. My Boiler inspector has never seen one. or heard anything as of yet. Any Info good or bad would be appreciated
The Miuras are extremely fuel efficient. They are also very sensitive to water quality. The local boiler company representing Miura has told me he intends to quit supporting Miuras because they are so much trouble. I have descaled 10 of these units for him, most of which had been in service for less than a year. Upon purchasing the units, the customers were told how important water treatment was, but few listened. After descaling they seem to listen. Some of these customers were not able to descale, they had burned holes in the tubes. The cost of replacing the tubes is enormous. The entire tube, steam drum and blowdown assembly have to be replaced. Apparently Miura won't sell just the tubes. My opinion is stay with a Scotch Marine.
