: : : My facility is looking into installing 3 - 400 bhp wetback methane fired boilers. I am in need of information and/or websites that can give me input into is this a good idea or not. My understanding is there have been problems with the quality of the methane gas and the overall systems.

: : I have converted some firetube boilers to methane or "dump" gas in the past. The consistency of the BTU properties of the Methane is an important issue. I have seen the BTU content to be anywhere from 60 to 80% of that of natural gas. Cleaning of the tubes can be required at an excellerated rate due to the unknown "by-products" in the Methane. This is solely related to the source of the Methane. Costs of installing the fuel trains in S.S. is also an issue. Methane is very corrosive and black iron will not weather. Overall these systems are able to run efficiently and reliably with a good Methane supply and a good burner arrangement. Most of the problems I have encountered with these systems is resulted from unreliable Methane supply.

: thanks for the info.
: that is pretty much what I am hearing about the methane boilers. The quality and delivery of the methane gas seems to always be the issue.
