We have a Webster burner installed on an 800 HP firetube boiler burning #2 fuel oil. At low to 1/3 firing rate, the flame wants to pulsate badly id the % O2 is lowered below 7.5%. Excess combustion air clears most of the pulsation. Above this 1/3 firing rate, the flame is more stable but even at the higher firing rates, if the %o2 is lowered to 5% or below, the pulsation returns. Note: we have another boiler the same with no pulsation. The only difference is the direction of the FD fan inlet to the burner. Could the direction of combustion air be the trouble? Anyone with experience in fixing the problem? Thank you
