Our plant operates the boilers at 100 psi. After the steam leaves the boiler it is then reduced down to 60 psi prior to entering the steam distributuion line. Steam does travel about 2 1/2 miles with feed branchs off the main into buildings throughout the length. My question is why is the boiler operated 40 psi above the line pressure. Advantages? Disadvantages?
