We have an 1860 victorian. ABout 17 rooms and 3900 square feet. We have a 35 year old oil furnace. We are buying a new furnace with Natural Gas. I ahve had several estimates. I dont think any of the contractors did a sqare feet of steam measurement which I understand is how a determination is made. One contracter said 150-180,000 BTU boileer. One said at least 200 BTU and another was 250000 BTU.
I did the square feet of of steam by measureing the raditors throughout the house, we have 16 radiators. I get a total of 915 square feet. By this rating I need at least 300,000 BTU of furnace. This seems like a high amount. I understand that the radiators might be excessive or to big for rooms. Not all colums or sections heat on some. Any suggestions. I dont want to buy the wrong furnace . Thanks
