We just found out that our current steam boiler needs to be replaced (instead of repaired). Our first estimate came to $8,000! Is that normal? Of course we'll get other estimates but I had no idea the cost of living in such an old house (built in the 1800s so no chance of upgrading to a different form of heating).
The estimate included:
• Remove existing steam boiler and clean up debris.
• Install a Burnham IN6 steam boiler with controls.
• Install inter-connecting piping between new boiler and existing system.
• Set up boiler operation and skim-off internal oils from manufacturing process.
I think there are 11-12 radiators in total for the house which is two story, 1465 feet plus a basement.
Thanks in adavance,
K
