: How long would you give a low pressure sectional weil mclain steam boiler to live under the following circumstances. No chemical treatment, no softening, cold city water going straight to the unit, high mineral city water, appears to never been blown down.

Although cast iron sectional boilers are the most forgiving when negelected, failure is eminent. The life expectancy of the boiler depends on how much make up water is entering on a daily basis. You may be able to get away without blowdown, chemical treatment and soft water if the return is 99%. As makeup rises the rate of mineral buildup will too. Ultimately I would expect cracked & leaking sections close to the bottom.
