fusible plugs where designed for solid fuel boilers that dont have any low water cut off except for the operator to stop the supply of fuel. when a plug fails due to excessive temp. the lead is pushed out by steam pressure and fills the furnace full of steam hence smothering the fire in theory. the ones i have screw into the steam drum from the waterside. threads are 3/4" ntp.
