We have a small gas fired boiler with an expansion tank. We had a new heating contractor servicing our system recently. He said that we need to replumb the fresh water feed line directly into the boiler return line. It now feeds directly into the expansion tank. He says that this is a dangerous situation. This system has been in operation since 1951 without any trouble. The only thing that has changed is the conversion from fuel oil to a gas fired boiler in the 70s. I am reluctant to change the system based solely on the recommendation of this contractor. Any comments on these older boiler systems would be helpful.
