I'm looking for feedback on what is acceptable or common industry practices in regards to performing work/inpsecitons on large industrial boilers, from the pulp industry to waste to energy units. In the 'good old days', dodging flaming blowbacks when punching spouts or clearing dissolving tanks lumps was common. The pendulum seems to have swung to the extreme, with unit shutdowns, either partial or whole being done in order to carry out even the most routine duty such as listening for evidence of tube leaks through an open door or inspection port. While not discounting safety requirements in the least, what is Actually happening out there in the industry these days??
