Have a 5 year old Burnham / Riello single pipe steam system. Am planning on finishing our basement soon and have a few questions related before I get started.
First, relocating pipes - need to move some of the pipes that run along the basement ceiling, I am looking to either raise them or run them along exterior walls. today some seem more pitched toward the bolier than others - can you tell me the recommended pitch?
A second question on the pipes - they used to be wrapped in asbestos, which was removed a few years ago - but the insulation it was replaced with doubles or triples the diameter, and will make the pipes hard to conceal. Is insulating the pipes a neccesity? or does anyone have a suggestion for something thinner that would insulate sufficiently?
Thirdly, If I am going to 'wall off' the boiler, how big room should I make for it - does the burner need to 'breathe'?
Thanks for your help.
