: : : I had a boiler put in almost 3 years ago and noticed recently that the glass sight tube was leaking. I had a plumber replace it and he mentioned that they now only last about 2 years! Can someone tell me why they only last 2 years?

: : why would you have a plummer replace it!

: They dont last as long now because gasket manufacturers can no longer use asbestos in the gasket material for the gauge glass. The gasket begins to leak, etches the glass and you have a failure.

Be sure the 'plumber' replaced the gaskets, and the small brass washer as well. We generally repace both annually when we srvice our customers. Hope this helps.
