I have a B&W d-tube boiler that recently had several tubes fail due to scale flakes plugging them. There is a lot of scale "1/8"+ on the tubes and drums. We have turbined and water blasted with marginal success.
I am tempted to acid clean the boiler but I am a afraid of creating leaks. The boiler is 30+ years old. A thickness survey indicates there is plenty meat on the tubes and drums, but with all the scale there could be some pitting I cant see.
Does anybody have suggestions for cleaning. Or an acid cleaning method that I can feel safe I wont create a problem.
