: : do you have a stop and nonreturn valve on your lag boiler

: : : I'm operating to 400hp Cleaverbrooks firtube boilers and the lead boiler is working just fine, but the lag keeps filling with water. Every morning I have to drian down to NOWL. I checked the make-up feed and it seems to be fine. What could be wrong what other things can I check?

:
: Yes I have a main steam stop valve(OS&Y)and non return valve

It's a no brainer,go up and feel your non return and the header valve that should be on top of it,I'll bet it's hot and if it is the steam from the main header is flowing back to the boiler and condensing,to prove this close both valves and open vent valve that is by code suppose to be in betwwen the header and drum stop, leave both closed and vent open for 24 hr's.And guess what the level will be the same. Now go out and get you a good non return that don't leak.
