Conditions of very low condensate pH will cause the passive oxide layer ( black magnetite) to be eaten away. The condensate will return black if left unchecked and will end up in the boiler. Once the condition is corrected the color will return to normal. This is of course only one possibility. As was submitted eariler, you will need to check all possibilities and also analyze your boiler water.
