The pH of the boiler water. You want to maintain an alkaline pH in the boiler water to prevent dissolving the iron in the drums, headers and tubes (9.5 to 10.5). Usually caustic is added to boost the pH only occasionally in large high pressure watertube boilers; if you are on a coordinated phosphate program the pH should stay within range without the need for soda ash.
