: Most gauges are filled with glycerine. They are good to use in high vibration areas where the liquid will dampen the vibration effects and limit damage and the ability to read the gauge. They have to be mounted correctly or the fluid will leak out. They are more expensive than normal gauges but don't buy the cheapest you can find, quality varies by manufacturer.
