I have two chimneys one handles (2) roughly 100K btu boilers and (3) 32k btu water heaters
the other, (2) roughly 100K btu boilers and (2) 32k btu water heaters. Currently there is
a 6 inch metal liner in each chimney. The (2) boilers vent into a stacked
manifold at the base of the flue pipe which also
has a condensate drain tube. The water heaters vent into the masonry chimney but not into
the metal flue. Since the building is located in Minnesota the condensation from the
water heaters has caused a fair amount of deterioration to the chimney brickwork.
I would like to vent the water heaters into the horizontal vents from the boilers using saddles.
Are saddles acceptable? Is there a good reference source for installation information?
How do I calculate the maximum btus that the existing flue can handle?
If the flue needs to be larger is it better to install a single larger flue in each chimney
to vent all (4) or (5) units or just add a small flue for the water heaters? What are the
specs for the flue (type of material, ratings, number of sections)?
