Typically coal requires more excess air (15-20%) while oil can be anywhere from (10-15%). This of course depends on the type and condition of your burner equipment

A fluidized bed or blown coal can make different characteristics. At times, 6 oil burners are used as preliminary ignition for coal combustion.
