: On a recent boiler operators test this question was asked. "What are the advantages of using a gas pilot on a boiler?" Any ideas!

Kind of a vague question. Gas pilot is used to light the main burner whether it be natural gas, fuel oil or pulverized coal. Advantage is using a pilot is safer than lighting the burner with a torch, off another burner or off the radiant heat of the refractory.
