A welded joint is by far the best way to achieve a leak free isolation for the long term...

: This question must be 150 years old. But what is the best valve design to give reliable, without question steam shut-off (@1500kpa)that will last 20 years without failure? I'm sick and tired of replacing ball, gate and globe valves that get less than a years leak-free service. Does anyone want to stake their reputation on their advice?
