I may be missing something here, especially with your other response "not in the state of ...". Also I'm from Australia. However I can't see a problem or danger. I assume the preheater will be interlocked to be off and the burner will be retuned. There will be some temp interlocks to bypass in light oil mode. Fuel pressure may need re-adjusting and don't be suprised on the lower viscosity diesel,if the pump pressure control won't raise the pressure as the pump clearances might be excessive (worn).
What type of rotary cup burner is it?
