Boiler problems...

We have a raypak boiler that has a problem. When the thermostat is placed slightly above the room temperature, the pilot will light, and then sometimes the burner will light, or the pilot will go out before the burner can light. When the burner actually lights, it will only stay lit for a maximum of a few seconds before it shuts off. It does this repeatedly.
If the thermostat is turned way above the room temperature, everything seems to work fine. Why is this? It does not seem normal at all.
