Consistent levels of chemicals would be helped by more frequent metered releases of sediment. Longer periods would leave greater amounts of sediment at the bottom and a possibly greater variation in solution than frequent releases. If the sediments do not cause a problem when skipping shift blowdowns, it is possible to increase the time between blowdowns. This can be judged by titration and observation. It is not as much a matter of tradition and habit than as a wise choice of treatment for consistent protection.
