: NIMBY stands for Not In My Back Yard, it's a generalization for anyone that opposes any kind of plant being built near them. They usually have no clue as to what we do for a living and are usually of the no nukes, greenpeace variety. My first big run in with them was at a Q and A the local utility held. Seems that our old power plant near the town (1940's vintage coal fired) was in need of repair and the bigwigs wanted to repower the plant and make upgrades. The plant would have been equipped with new emmission controls and I had no problem. I never saw so many out of state license plates. The mis-information being spouted made me absolutely sick. Either way the plant did not get upgraded and about half the plant is now out of service. The other half only runs when the load on the electric grid is high. The township lost a ton of tax money and about half the employees got laid off. So yeah, I got in in for them.
I'm suprised Vern hasn't chimed in more, he seems to be the resident water guru around here. I'm betting that its Iron in the water causing your woes. I'm grasping at straws, but it sure sounds like a unique problem.
