: : What is the normal operation for low water controls on a 35,000 lb/hr automatic (non-recycling) steam boiler? Should the first low water cut-out shut down the boiler or just sound an alarm?

: At our plant we have two LWCO's that do both sound the alarm & close the fuel supply. We do have the extra bonus of a 3rd which is a probe type that does warn of a low water condition before the boiler goes offline & another probe which does the same but warns of high water.

We have 2 low water alarms on our boilers. The first is just an alarm. A low water shut-off switch cuts the water off. These should be taken out and inspected during your annual P.M
