Hi there,
I have an old 100k btu gas boiler that is piped directly into a 30' chimney without a draft hood. I'm getting way too much draft through the firebox. I can't find a HVAC dealer willing to spend the time to find one for me.
I'm thinking it would be fairly easy to fabricate one if I had more technical info. Are they designed for a specific boiler or exhaust pipe size? Is there a general rule of thumb as to how much vacuum the system should draw from the boiler? My boiler doesn't have any kind of those specs on it.
About all I know is that the draft hood allows air from the boiler room to cool the chimney and reduce convection.
Any thoughts/suggestions on my dilemma?
Thanks in advance.
