I have a 2500 s.f. house on Cape Cod built in 1940 with single zone steam radiators. The boiler is old, maybe original, with a newer burner (and a service contact). The system works well and is surprisingly efficient, givent the age (80%). However, the oil tank in my basement is 40 years old so it needs to be replaced pronto. My question is: do I spend $2500 to replace the oil tank or 2-2 1/2 times more to switch the system over to gas burner/boiler? There is already gas coming into the house for the cooktop and dryer (thank you prior owner!). If I should switch, what brands/models should I be looking for? Thanks.
