The sales person said they advertise 40%, but probable more like 50-60%. Are these numbers realistic, or am I better to stick with what I have?
To quote the Biasi web site, you would have a boiler with an efficiency of:
"The BIASI B-10 is a rugged, high performance, oil/gas fired, cast iron boiler engineered to deliver effiencies as high as 87.3%"
http://www.qhtinc.com/efficiency.html
So there isn't much difference between what you have and what you would get. You can't get 40 to 60 percent more efficiency from a boiler with about 85%, that would be 120% which is impossible. If the salesman was talking about going from a cast-iron oil boiler of 86% to a cast-iron oil boiler at 87%, he is the typical lying rip-off artist.
Any difference in money savings would happen when changing from oil to natural gas, which is about half the cost of oil now.
