I had a 15 year old Weil McLain steam boiler that started leaking inside the chamber. Prior to failing it could go several weeks in the winter without adding water.
I had a new steam boiler installed (Utica)2 years ago. Right off the bat, it was using water about every 3 days. It started getting worse and they recently found a hole in the chamber and replaced the entire cast iron core.
The new boiler also requires water every 3 days. Since the original system failure we have checked for leaks in the piping (many times) and changed all the valves.
Any ideas?
