I am looking at replacing a 17 year old Weil-McLain VHC- furnace. It needs about $1300 worth of new parts and repairs. The tech thinks the Super Store is in need of replacement because the boiler temp wasn't dropping at all even after he restarted the boiler being off for 2 days. (the water was circulating). With the well water, he thinks the coils may be jacketed with minerals and not trnasferring the heat.
Anyway, I was quoted $9000 to replace the boiler with a Buderus GB142 (95% AFUE Eff Rating). The Super Store would be about another $2200 he said.
I live in the Hudson Valley in NY, south of Albany. I almost fell off my chair when quoted the replacement costs.
Does this seem high for this type of job?
