If there is no special tool to do the job, many a stubborn fitting has been removed by cutting the nipple flush to the hole, using a jab metal blade to slice the remainder a few times the long way inside the pipe until the cut is near, but not into the threads, and then chiseling the pieces away from the threads to pull them out.
