If it is a steam boiler, do you have
air vents on each radiator? When cold
the steam vent should be open allowing
the air in front of the steam to escape.
If you have a two pipe/radiator system
I am not sure if the vent works in
exactly the same way.
If you remove the steam vent pressure
should be released if it is there.
