cast iron baseboards with steam heat??

my plumber tells me that i can't get a cast iron baseboard for steam heat because they're only made to work on hydronic systems. is this true? my parents have a cast iron baseboard in their house which is steam with no problems that we know of. are there any cast iron baseboards that are specifically made for steam or ones that work better than others?
