If there is no leaking water visible on the floor below the boliler, the usual cause of water loss is from a leak above the water line, which can be several bad vents on the radiators, a leak in the wall, or a leak above the water line of the boiler itself. A boiler without a leak would not require much water. Also check that the boiler pressure is not exceeding 2.5 psig, thereby driving steam out of the system quickly.
