should water be left on with tankless HW systems?

We have tankless HW running off the boiler in our summer home. Is it safe to turn off the water main to the house for the winter? I was told that in general, it would be safer for the house not to have water pressure in case the pipes burst. However, I don't want to do something that might ruin the HW coil either.
