Main Burner Does Not Light

I have a Corvec Britony II.T water heater. I can get the pilot light to light, but when I turn the dial round to the full on position it goes out when 2/3 rds of the way round. It always goes out at the same position.

Any ideas what is wrong with my water heater. Thanks
