The most usual cause of banging is the design with 4 zones in a boiler without much water in it. When a few zones are closed, less than half the amount of water is flowing thorugh the boiler to cool it off, so it boils water inside. A design with enough zones open all the time to assure minimum flow, or a buffer tank to provide the water mass the little boiler is missing to absorb heat can stop that.
