I purchased a 5 year old home that has been roughed in for radiant heating with 5/8" hePEX tubing throughout basement(52'x26') and garage (21'x21'). I got a quote from the orginal contractor for $3885 complete to install a 95,000 BTU Crown boiler (no specific model noted). My home inspector (not a swindler from Dateline) said a Weil-McLain would be about $2,000.
Questions: How do I select a boiler? Does brand name matter? Are there brands to avoid? Is a high efficiency worth more money? Can I remove my water heater and use the boiler year-round?
I like to educate myself before shopping, but researching via mfr websites is a bit overwhelming. I don't want to end up with builder's grade if spending more makes sense. ANY TIPS FROM A PRO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...THANKS!
